War is here, and all hell is breaking loose. King Axil is marshaling his forces, Sibil is on her own crusade. And Reynard looks to avenge Spiro’s death while possibly making himself filthy rich. Two Crowns, Three Blades: An Action-Adventure Medieval Fantasy (say that three times fast) is the follow up to Six Moons, Seven Gods, and unlike its predecessor this is more of a straight up action medieval fantasy.
The wild west, but on an alien planet. No, this isn’t the novelization of the Bravestar cartoon, but Kenneth Wolfson’s The Beast of the East. A much better concept, though I am partial to the 80’s cliches and the rocker haircut on that horse. Here instead we follow Sam, a gunslinger on the frontier, now glorified babysitter for her hopeless son. All together it’s a satisfying read, though a bit of a mixed bag of nuts. Perfect for the trail, I suppose?

If there is any definite sign in The Engineer’s Mechanic that corporations rule the world, it is the naming of the “Outskirtz,” where some corporate head decided the “s” was not edgy enough. From these humble surroundings we follow Ren, a mechanic blessed with the gift of tech, as he confronts the corruption of Meticorp. This new Cyberpunk novel from L.K. Wintur is what I would like to call dystopian light, and a welcome switch up to overbearing darkness of the genre.
