The wild west, but on an alien planet. No, this isn’t the novelization of the Bravestar cartoon, but Kenneth Wolfson’s The Beast of the East. A much better concept, though I am partial to the 80’s cliches and the rocker haircut on that horse. Here instead we follow Sam, a gunslinger on the frontier, now glorified babysitter for her hopeless son. All together it’s a satisfying read, though a bit of a mixed bag of nuts. Perfect for the trail, I suppose?

RR: The Engineer’s Mechanic, by L.K. Wintur
If there is any definite sign in The Engineer’s Mechanic that corporations rule the world, it is the naming of the “Outskirtz,” where some corporate head decided the “s” was not edgy enough. From these humble surroundings we follow Ren, a mechanic blessed with the gift of tech, as he confronts the corruption of Meticorp. This new Cyberpunk novel from L.K. Wintur is what I would like to call dystopian light, and a welcome switch up to overbearing darkness of the genre.

The American Weekly magazine was a Sunday supplement published by The Hearst Corporation from 1896 until 1966. They claimed a circulation of over 50 million readers. This book consists of the complete contribution of Edmund Dulac for the publication as it relates to the run from 1924 until 1951.
